For 8 days, Chicago based Fiber Artist
Danny Mansmith works on-site in the gallery to construct a mysery object. Scaling it up 24 times bigger than its original size Mansmith is clueless as to its identity. Also participating is the general Chicago public (also clueless as to its identity), in charge of feeding the artist materials from which to create the mystery thing. For these 8 days only three people know what was in the mystery box - the project coordinators, Caro d'Offay, David Castillo and Emily Schmidt.
Upon arrival to the gallery, Mansmith sees the mystery box and is handed 4 sheets of paper. In the corner of the gallery is a small pile of donated green fabric and plastic. There is also a cat who does not help, but sleeps on the materials. Mansmith begins on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at 1pm.
Struggling over 8 days with donated wood, dresses, fake grass, paper...Mansmith fashions a huge pair of utility gloves using only donated materials, a sewing machine and the descriptive text.
