Caro d'Offay Gallery presents SANDUSKY, a multi-media installation by local Chicago artists Katy Keefe and Scott Cowan. A forest in the gallery, SANDUSKY consists of three, huge Moai heads (similar to those found on Easter Island) and a winding forest of pine trees and earth at the entrance to the gallery. At the end of the path the visitor to the gallery will find a rabbit-pelt blanket hanging above with Free snacks below and a golden corner of the room. The exhibit presents the loss of the Self within the perplexing feelings of freedom, hope and fear, fusing the distant past with the unimaginable future to one single point: the present. This is where the undercurrent of the political climate can be felt. As William Black stated, "If the doors of perception were cleansed then everything would appear as it is-infinite." Pressing in the current days of suspicion and anxiety, there is an unceasing strength that can surface from powerlessness; in the dismissal of knowledge lie the roots of wisdom. Hope is found in that which has the appearance of the absurd as well as in a love that grows within the forgotten Self. SANDUSKY closes on January 31, 2009 from 6-9pm. Caro d’Offay Gallery is located at 2204 W. North Ave in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday, and Saturday, 1 to 6 pm, and by appointment. |
