| LUMETYPE PRINTING |
The Lumetype process borrows from a wide range of traditional image-making methods, like painting, drawing, sculpting, B/W photography, printmaking (lithography, relief and intaglio printing) and provides the means to combine multiple techniques through the use of a very basic technology. Not much more than a pencil, brush or carving tool is necessary to achieve sophisticated images. This contemporary process allows the artist to relate directly to light (as the medium). When we do, we create a fresh and seamless visual language in the form of monoprints or editions of Lumetype prints.
Artists learn basics of both Photography and press-printing, creating plates from various materials and mediums and to print them photographically with just the pressure of the hand against a table.
This process is very simple to do for those just seeking some decompression time to "not have to think", while offering those with a desire for more challenging work, some serious riddles to solve. All materials provided except photo-paper. Paper may be purchased from Gallery.

LUMETYPE BODY PRINTS SATURDAYS 2-3 pm (4-weeks)
This "SHORT CLASS" is intended for those who have a good grasp of either B/W Photography and/or Press Printing techniques. Arriving with the knowledge of one of these disciplines will allow artists to enter easily into this contemporary image-making method, to print their bodies against photo-paper as an "intaglio plate". (Thankfully) no presses are needed, but also no lenses or enlargers are used. Lumetype is just you, your body's weight and the textures of your skin against the paper. The 4th week (last) class will be devoted entirely to converting one of your body prints into a lantern. The last class is also a one-day workshop to the public. The one-day workshop is a 4-hour class. Any students registering for the 4-week class are invited to stay for the full 4-hours of the last class, which is also a 1-day workshop |

LUMETYPE BODY-LANTERNS! SATURDAY 1-5 pm (1-DAY WORKSHOP)
For those who can't commit to a multiple-week class, but would like to explore Lumetype, we offer the 1-day Lumetype Lantern-making workshop. The workshop is a 4-hour workshop with a 30 minute break, in which students learn the basics of Lumetype printing to print their bodies onto photo paper and then convert the prints into lanterns powered by candles. Students of the (above) 4-week class are automatically included in this workshop without extra payment for the extra 3 hours. Studio space is therefore shared and will be limited to only 12 students total so sign up early to be included!

This footage in the first video shows the versatility of the Lumetype process. When deciding what to use as their plates, a group of artists participating in a Lumetype workshop at Caro d'Offay Gallery are the lucky recipients of the Yellow Pages drop off in front of the gallery. The group is given the option of a conventional surface or to try the yellow pages. They go for the yellow pages.
Artists are Sarah Glass, Amanda VerMeullen and Jessica Largent. |
